New Year, Same You: Reflection Over Resolutions (plus Journal Prompts)

Well, it’s here. A new year, a new decade, and much to reflect upon and think about. Anyone else getting busy with their planners right now? πŸ™‹πŸ½‍β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

I’m going to be blunt though (do I know any other way to do things? πŸ™ˆπŸ€£), I’ve never been one for much of anything related to New Years. NYE seems like an overrated holiday, and many of us pin all of our hopes and dreams on the following day being a massive catalyst for the changes we tried unsuccessfully to make before. Not into it πŸ™…πŸ½‍♀️

So rather than the usual “I NEED TO CHANGE EVERYTHING ABOUT MYSELF/MY BIZ/MY LIFE TODAY” kind of panic, let’s take a step back and ask some much more important questions.

What quality do you possess that you really love about yourself? Not a physical trait, something much bigger and more significant than that. Such as emotional strength, resilience, setting healthy boundaries, taking imperfect action, believing in yourself, taking risks, growing more comfortable showing up exactly as you are without feeling the need to change yourself or be someone different. What about all of THAT stuff? Because that’s pretty damn awesome and worth celebrating, not being pushed aside to be forgotten while you’re busy trying to change everything about yourself overnight simply because there’s a new year shown on your calendar.

Growth isn’t linear. Entrepreneurship isn’t linear. Neither is healing, building strength of any kind, or life in general.

And instead of thinking about what you’re going to change overnight, maybe re-frame that into a series of questions that will keep you focused on the bigger picture. Such as:

What worked for you in 2019? Why is that?

What didn’t work? Why is that?

What can you leave behind?

What are you most proud of?

What’s one goal for 2020 that feels attainable?

What’s one goal for 2020 that excites you, even though it might feel unattainable and scares the shit out of you?

How do you want to FEEL this year? Not just at the end of the year, but everyday? What do you need to do to make that happen?
